President’s Message
Dear Fellow LTB Alumni,
In the space of just one week in March, Leadership Tampa Bay has brought together leaders in our State government with leaders in local leadership groups. On March 10th and 11th, the Leadership Tampa Bay Class of 2004 went to Tallahassee for its mid-year retreat, and met with state legislators and cabinet officials in a joint event, "Tampa Bay Days," with the Tampa Bay Partnership. Incidentally, some of the individuals traveling with the Tampa Bay Partnership were from LTB's inaugural Class of 1988. One week later, on St. Patrick's Day, Leadership Tampa Bay hosted a joint alumni event with other leadership groups from the region with an evening dinner cruise on the Yacht Starship. As we sailed up and down the channel, green beer in hand, current LTB class members mingled with LTB alumni from previous years stretching back again to the inaugural LTB Class. Different events, different alumni, but the same passion for regional excellence was evident. Sixteen years of Leadership Tampa Bay history came together twice in one week in different parts of the state. What a program!
While in Tallahassee, the current LTB class spoke with legislators about issues in the Tampa Bay region, and legislators updated the class on issues that they are grappling with during the current session. It was an informative trip for everyone involved.
Closer to home, the LTB Class of 2004 has been busy exploring the issues throughout the region as they progress on in their program year. They are not even halfway through their year and yet this class has generously donated to charities and non-profits in Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties! What a class!
One of our class programs included a tour of East Tampa, with Chloe Coney leading the way and showing the class the changes and challenges going on in one of the poorest areas of the region. Chloe mentioned to me that Chase Manhattan, through LTB '03 graduate, Vonita Singh, is providing the Corporation to Develop Communities a very large grant of several thousands of dollars, to help educate and create a better quality of life for children in East Tampa. Chloe said, "If it wasn't for Leadership Tampa Bay, this might not have happened." What an organization!
LTB alumni like Vonita Singh, and many others, truly make our organization one we can all take pride in. Class members like those in LTB '04 continue to build on the wonderful legacy of those who went before them, and they are actively making things happen to improve the Tampa Bay region. Keep your heart in LTB!
